Before the rain started pouring, my sis had a chance to lay back in the sands of the Gold Coast, while I explored the neighbourhood. To my amazement, I found a bar with a Belgian beer selection to die for and the most inappropriate name: Pink Poodle Motel.

The citizenship ceremony at the city hall had it all. Brass bands and pyrotechnics. Sable fur coat clad mayors and naked aboriginals. Friends and relatives. All except one.

The diving conditions on Flinders Reef were fairly challenging, once again. The visibility was a bit better than in May, but the swell was pretty damn huge, which I noticed all too well at the end of the dive, when one of the waves suddenly lifted me all the way to the surface from five meters. So much for the safety stop...
The next spot, Curtin Artificial Reef, had better visibility by far, and diving above and among dozens of wrecks left me filled with awe. No swell here, but the current was strong - getting back to the dive boat was manageable but hard. I really need new fins to replace these pieces of two-by-four I'm currently diving with.
The underwater wildlife was pretty standard, while the best surprise awaited above the surface: between the dives when I was sitting by the railing and watching the ocean, a dolphin young jumped out of the water and performed a twisted somersault right beneath my eyes.
